The food is top-notch and the setting can’t be beaten. You may have better luck making a reservation for lunch instead of dinner. I’ve been to Mama’s for lunch, and I found that the food and service were both fantastic. In fact, my favorite Mama’s dish (an ono fish entree caught by one of Mama’s staff members that same morning) was from the lunch menu.

Welcome To the North Shore
It came with a side of coconut rice, which was delicious as well. I'd never had anything like it before, and loved that it was topped with chopped whole macadamia nuts and had the best crunch. Nick’s Fishmarket sources as much produce as possible from Hawaii purveyors. When he’s not in the kitchen, you’ll find Chef Maka spending his time carefully finding the freshest and finest ingredients from Maui’s fishermen and farmers.

Counter-Argument: Reasons to Go to Mama’s Fish House for Dinner
Dozens of them would clamber aboard and sleep overnight on Marinero’s deck. Mama’s Fish House is located on Maui’s famous north shore. Home to world-class windsurfing, the Road to Hana, sea turtle covered beaches, and the cute surfer town of Paia. We recommend wearing semi-formal attire as it will add to the overall elegance and ambiance of your experience. The staff won’t judge; they’ll just be delighted that you decided to join them for a delicious meal.
For those looking for something a bit more exotic, try the Pupu Platter which features local delicacies such as squid luau, lomi salmon, and Kalua pork. We are not foodies and tend to eat at less expensive restaurants. In the case of Mama’s a family-owned restaurant, we decided for our 29th wedding anniversary we would splurge and are so glad we did. Honestly, dinners here are fine – probably worth the price, but nothing I dream about. In my experience, the hosts and serving staff are always phenomenal. They’ll share a welcome, a rundown of what to expect during your meal, explain any specials, and give you space to decide what you want.
Generations of Delicious

Your only parking option at Mama’s Fish House Maui is valet parking. Every time I go, the valet is free (just be sure to tip them!). They’re speedy and kind and will direct you where to check in at the restaurant. Plus, you’ll want some time to enjoy the setting before settling in for dinner. The lawn outside the restaurant is beautiful, and there is also some seating near the hostess stand. What’s most surprising about Mama’s Fish House is its location.
Our deluxe two bedroom beachfront cottage opens directly to the ocean, so you can stroll out to the lawn and enjoy the beach any time of the day. One time, I went at dinnertime and chose two appetizers instead of an entree, just because they both sounded better at the time than the main entree options. On other trips, I’ve gotten different seafood options and they were all fine. Many people begin their Mama’s Fish House experience with a specialty cocktail.
They would gather mangoes and papayas from the trees, watercress from freshwater streams and find the best breadfruit (there are many varieties of breadfruit). After a few weeks a young Marquesan came aboard as crew. For three months they explored the islands of the Marquesas, sometimes sailing to villages that had never been visited by a sailboat. In the more remote villages, they would be met by canoes paddled by kids bearing gifts of fruit and fish.

Our top reason is the lunchtime experience includes strolling the secluded cove and coconut grove. We take pictures, enjoy the weather, and the view from our table during daylight hours. Before you even visit Maui, you want to secure your reservations to Mama’s Fish House, especially if you dream of an oceanview seat at sunset.
Sometimes their self-steering device worked and sometimes it didn’t. When it didn’t, they took turns at the wheel, four hours on and four hours off. Occasionally they rigged the boat to stay in place (heave to) so they could catch up on their sleep.
